Lesson Options and Descriptions

We offer several different choices to fit the needs of different students' levels and goals.

Listed below are the options with descriptions.

1/2 Hour Riding Lesson - Private

A full half-hour of riding with one-on-one instruction from the head instructor (never a trainee). Undivided attention offers the beginner student the opportunity to learn without distraction, and to gain the skills and strength necessary to ride more independently of the instructor. Also a significant piece in the advancement of intermediate and advanced riders.

1 Hour Lesson - Grooming and Riding - Private

One hour total. Usually starts with a half hour of riding and a half-hour of grooming; moving more toward 15-20 min of grooming with 40-45 min of riding as the student becomes more proficient at grooming and stronger at riding. This option is beneficial as a progressive step between the 1/2 hour and full hour riding lessons, and also gives the opportunity to learn care, grooming, tacking, and general ground safetly around horses.

1 Hour Riding Lesson - Private

One full hour of riding. Very valuable for more advanced riders and horses. Also very intense. Recommended when rider has gained enough endurance at a half hour to benefit from longer instruction.

1 Hour Riding Lesson - Group
For more experienced riders who are competent to ride independently of their instructor. Includes a small number of students (2-3) at similar experience levels who not only gain the benefit of being instructed, but also from watching the instruction, mistakes, and successes of their fellow students. Note: Before students can attend group lessons, a minimal number of private lessons must be taken to establish suitability for group riding and evaluate level.
2 Hour Unmounted Pony Club Lesson - Group

A course of general equine care, safety, and health geared towards students at levels from beginner to advanced. Hands-on learning environment - fun and relaxed. United States Pony Club manuals D, C, and B/HA/A will be used. Instructor USPC grad '97.

1 ASTM - SEI certified riding helmet at all times when mounted.
The barn provides helmets that meet these standards and will probably fit most riders.
If they do not, the rider cannot mount until a properly fitting riding helmet is obtained.
You are welcome to bring or purchase your own. Prices between $30 -$100.
Find a local tack shop and seek assistance for proper fitting, or
talk to your instructor.

2 Suitable footwear. A boot with approximately a 1/2 inch heel and a stiff sole.
Regular riding boots are the best, but hiking boots or others similar can work.
Please - definitely no sneakers, sandals and flipflops anywhere near the barn.

3 Long pants. Might seem warm in the summertime, but are an important factor
in avoiding saddle rubs, ticks, scrapes, etc.

4 Also, as in other sports, we ask that you do not wear earrings, bracelets, and
other jewelry which could potentially cause injury.
